Stoning at Jeddah

A woman was dragged forward  and her crime was read out (accused of adultery, murder). The executioner dealt her  100 blows with all his strength  upon her shoulder.

The crowd picked up stones and started pelting the woman to death. She was facing her last awful ordeal. She was veiled in Muslim fashion, her mouth was gagged to muffle her cries. The men snarled and shouted as they flung their stones, their faces transformed into masks of sadism.

It took over an hour before the Doctor who halted the stoning periodically to feel the victims pulse, announced her dead.

One of its central theses has long been that a government's claim to authority is justified only if the government can show those who live under it, that it secures their freedom, concerned to protect their life, liberty and property. The government that governs least governs best. Freedom of conscience, limited government that does not try to re-distribute wealth or goods. Benefits and burdens are distributed justly when government allows every individual the freedom to do what he chooses to do for himself and others.
